Sanchez, Lucy M.

Lucy M. Sanchez, a resident of Los Angeles, CA, passed away peacefully on January 12, 2016, to be with the Lord in His kingdom.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Mary Sanchez of Santa Fe; husband of 70 years Ray; daughter Gloria; sisters Lily (Ortiz) Olsafski, Stella Delgado, Angie Gonzales; brothers Joe, Arthur, Frank, Rosendo, Manuel and Louis.

She is survived by sons, Leo (Sonny) and wife, Doris of Albuquerque, Henry and wife, Denice (Dee) of Los Angeles, Carlos (Charlie) and wife Dolores (Lola) of Rio Rancho; and one sister, Lena Fischer of El Paso, TX. Lucy had nine grandchildren and several great-granchildren.

She was born in Burley, NM (Socorro County) on December 3, 1915 and was raised in Santa Fe, NM. In her younger years she attended St. Francis School and Loretto Academy and was proud to be in the school choir where she sang as a soloist many times. Her favorite song was "Ava Maria" which she performed to many audiences. She married Ray Sanchez in Santa Fe in 1935. They moved to Los Angeles in 1954.

She was dearly loved and will be dearly missed. She was the soul, body, loving anchor and steadfast positive guide of the family. Her cooking was legendary and is still revered and copied today. She will always be remembered as a loving, caring, and generous wife, mother and grandmother.

Cremation has taken place in Los Angeles. Services and a Mass will be held at the Shrine of St. Bernadette church on 11404 Indian School Rd NE, Albuquerque, NM, at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, Janaury 27th, followed by burial services at Mt. Calvary Cemetery at 1900 Edith Blvd. NE.
