Luis Jose

Bernardez, MD

F.A.C.S., on January 27, 2017, Luis transitioned into eternal life. A renowned & highly respected physician, whose genuine love, passion and care for his patients and families never

wavered. He was a physician's physician.

Luis was born in Cordova, Argentina on April 17, 1931. To avoid conscription into the left-wing Peronist Army, (which used terrorism against the Argentine State) he became a proud citizen of the United States. In the sixties he started a successful general surgery practice in Santa Fe, NM. Even after his retirement, he had a following of patients who trusted his "second opinion".

He had a way of welcoming all people without pretense and with great generosity of spirit. He had a sharp wit and sense of humor and relished a good debate. He was the life of every party and danced a mean authentic tango that he learned in his mother's kitchen at a young age.

His mantra was always, "How can I help?" The world was left a better place because of him.

Aside from many relatives in Argentina, he is survived by Patricia, his loving wife of 20 years, his children, Patricia Holland (Michael), Luis Jose (Kellie), Juan Paul (Tracy), six grandchildren and his great-grandson, Finn.

He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Yes, we will miss him, but we know his presence will always be with us.

A memorial service will be held at Berardinelli Family Funeral in Santa Fe on Feb. 12, 2017 between 2-4 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude's Children's Fund, the Humane Society & the .
