Lynda B. Taptto Obituary
Taptto, Lynda B.

Our beloved mother, wife, grandmother, great- grandmother, sister, aunt, Lynda B. Taptto, 70, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, May 1, 2016 after a brief battle with cancer. She passed peacefully surrounded by her loving family in Albuquerque, NM.

Lynda was a proud member of the Mescalero Apache tribe and wife of Woody Taptto, a member of the Kiowa Tribe of Oklahoma. Lynda enjoyed attending Tribal celebrations with her husband and children, frequently travelling to Oklahoma, where Woody is a member of the Kiowa Gourd Clan and Kiowa Black Leggings. Lynda and Woody also attended many pow-wows where their son Matthew often sang as part of a pow-wow drum group. Lynda made dance shawls and was always glad and quick to have them ready for "give-aways" at the various pow-wow events. Lynda was a person full of life and joy. She loved to laugh and joke around with her many friends and loved ones. She'll always be remembered for her generosity, thoughtfulness and willingness to help people any way she could.

Lynda was a firm believer in Jesus Christ and was a member of Crestview Baptist Church of Albuquerque where she worked as Financial Secretary for over ten years. Lynda also served as the youth Sunday school teacher for several years which her daughter, Katerina, was able to take part. Lynda was able to pass on her legacy of faith to her family and those around her. Lynda's life verse comes from the book of Psalms, chapter 29 verse 2:

"Give unto the Lord the glory due unto His name; worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness."

Lynda was preceded in death by her parents and an older sibling. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Woody Taptto; son Matthew James and his wife Katrina, their children Joshua Matthew, Kiley Chenoah and her 1-month old daughter, Acona; daughter Katerina Florence and her husband Bernard Garcia; her sisters, Marva Washington, Jocelyn "Joey" Nasewytewa and her children Rainey K. Enjady and Skye Luna; Nadine and her husband Francis Tafoya and their son Jason Matthew; brother Jonah Washington Jr; and many special sons and daughters whom she loved and cared for as her own.

The family of Lynda would also like to thank the physicians, nursing staff and the Hospice staff at the Presbyterian Hospital and Kaseman Hospice for their kindness and loving care of our beloved mother during this difficult time.

We will miss you, mom, but we have the confidence that we will be reunited with you one day!

A CELEBRATION OF LIFE will be held in Lynda's honor on May 21, 2016 at 1:00pm. at the Mescalero Reform Church, 346 Wardlaw Dr. Mescalero, NM 88340, (575) 464-4471.
