Birmingham, Margaret "Peggy" (Schell)

Margaret, age 93, a resident of Albuquerque since 1975 and beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend passed away peacefully on December 9, 2015.

She was born in Goodland, Kansas to Harry and Ellen Schell on August 18, 1922. She graduated from Marymount College in Salina, Kansas in 1944 and from Cornell University graduate school in 1962. Peggy was a dietitian with the Veterans Administration until her marriage to Joseph E. Birmingham in 1963.

She was preceded in death by her husband and is survived by daughter Mary Francis and her husband Stephen; stepsons James Birmingham and his wife Pimjai, Thomas Birmingham and his wife Elizabeth, and Richard Birmingham and his wife Jeanne; grandchildren Alyssa Broenneke, Pavida Jaisamer, Michael Birmingham, Kristen Birmingham, and Megan Birmingham; brother Lawrence Schell; nephew David Schell; and nieces Lisa Burns and Patti Meyers.

Prior to her marriage, Peggy worked as a dietician in hospitals in Chicago, IL, Denver, CO, Leavenworth, KS, Bath, NY and in the VA Central Office in Washington, DC. She was a member of the Albuquerque Sister Cities, Albuquerque Council for International Visitors, and a charter member of the Friendship Force of New Mexico. Peggy was a devoted wife and mother who enjoyed entertaining, reading, cooking and sewing, in addition to domestic and foreign travel and attending New Mexico Symphony Orchestra concerts and the Santa Fe Opera. She will truly be missed, particularly by her many good friends at La Vida Llena.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John XXIII Catholic Church, 4831 Tramway Ridge Rd. at 10:00 am on Saturday, January 30th. Interment will follow at 9:00 am on Monday, February 1st at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
