Margaret Padilla Vasilakis was born September 18, 1922 in Polvadera, New Mexico to Luis and Winnie Mace Padilla. She graduated from Albuquerque High School in Albuquerque, New Mexico and received her Bachelor degree in Health, Physical Education and Recreation from the University of New Mexico and her Master's degree in Guidance and Counseling from New Mexico State University.

She married her childhood sweetheart, Tony Vasilakis, on August 1, 1942, in Columbia, South Carolina where he was stationed. She returned to Albuquerque when he was sent overseas for the next three years during World War II.

Margaret was a dancer and performed on stage in New Mexico, California, Texas and Oklahoma. She was an educator and taught at Farmington High School and Hermosa Junior High in Farmington, New Mexico. She also was a guidance counselor at Alameda Junior High in Las Cruces, New Mexico.

Margaret was a member of the Episcopal Church, American Association of University Women and numerous social and professional organizations.

She is survived by daughter Diane Wilson of Cortez, CO and two sons, Tony Vasilakis II of Springboro, Ohio, and Stephen Vasilakis of New Castle, CO; four grandchildren, Randy Calhoun, Kim Rawson, Casey Durrestein and Emily Hisel; as well as seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 73 years, Tony Vasilakis.
