Dillon, Marguerite (O'Rourke)

Marguerite (O'Rourke) Dillon, 97, a longtime resident of T or C, NM, died on January 21, 2017 in Silver City, NM at the home of her daughter, Sharon Nolasco. She was born on a farm outside of Ford City, Missouri on April 10, 1919 to James William & Beatrice Ann O'Rourke.

Marguerite was predeceased by her parents; husband, Emmett Parnell Dillon; siblings, Vincent O'Rourke (Bataan Death March), Maureen Lonz, James Vernon(Jim) O'Rourke, Rose Marie Streich and one great-granddaughter, Emory Underwood. She lost her beloved daughter and best friend, Kathy Underwood to breast cancer in November, 2015. Survivors include two siblings, Ferrell (Patty) O'Rourke & Patricia (Art) Brown; children, Tim (Dee), Carolyn, Dan & Sharon (Nacho) Nolasco; son-in-law, Andy Underwood; her grandchildren, Mark Dillon, Amelia Underwood Taylor, Bud Underwood, Zerod Underwood, Radawn Underwood, James Alba & Mae Alba Orton & great-grandchildren, Dominic Dillon, Reyna Lynn Webb, Javier Underwood, Victor Alba, Azra & Zeddicus Orton.

Marguerite's family came to Albuquerque in 1938. After attending St. Joseph's College she taught in a one-room school house in Frost, NM. She returned to Albuquerque and worked for First National Bank. It was then that she was introduced to her future husband on a blind date that was set up by his sister, Pearl. She married Emmett Dillon on October 4, 1947. After a long and happy marriage, Emmett died in June, 1995.

Marguerite was a model home maker, mother and wife. She was constantly cooking or creating. She was an avid quilter and master seamstress. She loved making crafts & was a member of the hobby club for many years. She was also a long time member of the Chamiza Cowbelles & the Sierra Vista Hospital Auxillary. At the age of 80 she was participating in a line dancing group. She loved music, dancing & a good laugh.

Marguerite's life was defined by her dedication to & love for her family, hard work and faithfulness to her Lord Jesus Christ through her devout adherence to the Catholic faith. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church since she moved to T or C in 1973

Marguerite was able to live independently until 2015 when she went to live with her daughter, Kathy. In spite of being, for all practical purposes, blind, deaf and immobile she retained her sharp mind and positive attitude. She found great meaning in this trying period by immersing herself in constant prayer and family love. She was especially devoted to the Blessed Virgin Mary and prayed the Holy Rosary often.

We, the family of Marguerite and Emmett, were privileged to have such wonderful parents and examples of Christian living. We look forward to reuniting with them in the Kingdom of Heaven.

Cremation has taken place and a Prayer Vigil will be held on Friday, February 3, 2017, at 6:00 P.M. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church led by Deacon Jim Winder. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2017, at 11:00 A.M. celebrated by Rev. Marcos O. Reyna. Inurnment will follow in Vista Memory Gardens Cemetery.
