Ashcroft, Maria Lina Gomes Gadelha



Maria Lina Gomes Gadelha Ashcroft, age 79, of Albuquerque New Mexico, surrounded by her family passed away at home at 3:11 a.m. on Sunday, July 23, 2017 from a sudden onset of metastatic cancer. Though she was a petite woman she liked to say she was "small but mighty." She was born in Arumanduba, Para, Brazil on March 8, 1938, daughter of Maria Gomes and Cinerio Izidro Gadelha. She was one of eight children, survived by her brother, the actor, Mario Gadelha, Ana Gadelha Vasconcelos , and Carlos Gadelha of Salvador, Bahia, Brazil. She emigrated to the United States on December 26, 1958 and married Ronald Clyde Peterson, later divorced and deceased. She is survived by her beloved husband Francis Richard Ashcroft whom she married on February 14, 1970.



She is also survived by her five children, Maysa-Maria Kristina Gadelha Peterson, Ivanna-Maria Michelle Gadelha Austell, Pierre Andre Gadelha Peterson, Francesca-Maria Gadelha Ashcroft along with her husband David Grimm, and Marco Francis Gadelha Ashcroft; seven grandchildren, Eric Peterson, Eleni Hosack along with her husband Garrett, Sean Peterson Schnell, Ian Peterson Schnell, Evan Peterson Schnell, Kristina Austell, Alex Austell, and Lukas Peterson; and one great grandson, Isaac Peterson Schnell.

She is renowned artist and published poet. Her work can be seen in galleries, establishments and homes across two continents. Everyone who met her was impressed by her big, kind heart.

A memorial celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, September 2, 2017 at Nahalat Shalom Courtyard and Community Center, 3606 Rio Grande NW Alb, NM 87107.
