Marie Giovanetti Obituary
Giovanetti, Marie

January 18, 1915 -

April 17, 2016

Marie passed away peacefully in her sleep in Granite Bay, CA at the age of 101. She was a lifelong resident of Gallup, graduating from Gallup High School and retiring from the Bureau of Indian Affairs. Marie loved to bake; her cream puffs were legendary and distributed regularly to friends and neighbors. She also donated many hours at The Little Sisters of The Poor where she baked for the residents and their bake sales. Marie enjoyed playing pinochle with friends at the Senior Center and also liked "kicking up her heels" at the Silver Spur night club east of town. Marie was fond of all animals; she would go outside in her backyard and whistle for the birds who came to her to be fed. She also loved speaking her Italian dialect to family friends who had immigrated from the same Piedmont area where her parents had lived.

Marie is predeceased by her parents Serafin and Felicita Giovanetti, her sister Madeline Petranovich of Granite Bay, CA, and her brother Bert Giovanetti who, as a City Manager, was instrumental in establishing the athletic programs in Gallup.

She is survived by her nieces Kaye Giovanetti Nechesnoff of Albuquerque and Eve Petranovich Mercer of Granite Bay. She will be missed by 11 grandnieces & grandnephews: Brent, Troy and Mark Miller of Grand Junction, Brian Giovanetti and Deedra Fry of Denver, Debbie Smith of Albuquerque, Grant Nechesnoff of Oakland, Tanya Lasco of Cody, and Barry, David and Lane Mercer of Granite Bay.

She will be interred at Sunset Memorial Park in Gallup, NM, next to her brother Bert.
