Marie Yvonne "Memaw" Parnell

Marie Yvonne "Memaw" Parnell, 81, surrounded by loved ones, was called home by her Heavenly Father on December 11, 2017.

Yvonne was born October 2nd, 1936 in Wetumka, OK to Whitson and Hazel Ross. She married her high school sweetheart, Gene on October 2nd, 1953 in Artesia, NM. He preceded her in death December 20, 2013. They were married 60 wonderful years. She was also preceded in death by her parents.

Above all else, Yvonne had an immense love for Jesus. Her relationship with Him was most important to her. One way that she showed her love for Jesus was by serving in the Kairos Prison Ministry with Gene. Also, in a recent interview by Courtney, one of Yvonne's grandchildren, the question "What's the most important advice you would give your grandchildren?" Yvonne's response was "to teach your children about Jesus!"

Yvonne was an incredible seamstress, quilter & loved working on ceramics in her free time. She also had a great interest in learning about the history of her family so she studied genealogy. Back in the day, she enjoyed being a "motorcycle mama"! She loved hopping on the back of Gene's Honda Goldwing to go for a ride. They even made it up to Canada. One memorable occasion was when Gene and Yvonne attended an Elvis concert, which ended up being one of his last. Later in life, Gene and Yvonne spent time together by watching shows such as Bonanza, The Virginian, Wheel of Fortune and Walker, Texas Ranger.

Yvonne was very competitive, especially when it came to card games. She enjoyed playing Hand and Foot with her friends. This game is like Canasta which she would play with her mom, kids, and grandkids. When asked to recall her favorite childhood memory, she would always answer with "being called Bono".

Yvonne is survived by her children, Genie Sharp of Albuquerque, Ross Wayne Parnell and wife Serena of Hulett, WY and Diana Statzula & husband Joe of Albuquerque; eight loving grandchildren & 14 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Johnnie Lee Coor & husband Ray & step-brothers Leroy and Jerry Boykin; as well as many cherished nieces & nephews.

Service will be held Sunday, December 17, 2017, 2:00pm at Montgomery Church of Christ, 7201 Montgomery NE, Abq, NM
