Mary Alice Loomis Obituary
Loomis, Mary Alice

On February 23, Mary Alice Loomis slowly released her brother Bill's hand and left her Elephant Butte home for eternity.

Mary was born in Albuquerque, November 4, 1939, to William Jay (1912-2007) and Lorraine Stone (1913-1992) Loomis. Traveling for WJ's road construction business, the family of four, including sister Betsy Jean (1932-2004) and brother William Jay, Jr., (born 1948) lived across New Mexico. Settling in Santa Fe in 1954, Mary excelled academically and musically first at Loretto Academy, then at Santa Fe High, graduating in 1957. Earning a Music Scholarship from NMSU, she became reacquainted with many earlier statewide classmates.

Her life changed forever when she met Donald Gene Kennedy (1934-2014) in Santa Fe, after her lst marriage ended. They fell in love and were eager to provide siblings for her son Michael William and Don's children Mona, Ron & Becky. Donna Jean (1962-1999) joined the family in Houston, where they lived briefly (as Mary could only find brown chili).

Cinda Lorraine was born in Santa Fe in 1963.

Mary's jobs included mom, sewing teacher, and bookkeeper for Loomis Construction Co. and Houston Lumber. Retiring in 2007 from SCRADA in T or C, she worked as a dispatcher for a State Radio Communications in Santa Fe.

She volunteered at rape crisis and domestic violence centers, standing with the underdog, the abused, and the underprivileged. She was well respected for her work, ethics, and loyalty to co-workers, law enforcement officers, EMI personnel and foremost, the family she loved.

Mary was a wonderful, caring mother, sister, aunt, grandma, great-grandma, friend, and mentor. Her hobbies and pastimes were sure to keep people smiling, from making Zozobras with Nell's girls and performing melodramas during Santa Fe's Fiesta to chaperoning Little Bill's activities and dances, attending Denny's Coffee Club and school functions, and her love of muscle cars.

Mary's family would love your company as we fulfill her wishes to celebrate her life on Monday, March 7, at 12:15 PM at 203 Hot Springs Landing Road, Elephant Butte, or Wednesday, March 9, at 12:15 PM at The Elk's (BPOE) 1615 Old Pecos Train, Santa Fe. Bring your memories and photos of Mary to share verbally or on her storyboard from 11:30-3:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to in her name. With love, Bill, Melissa and John, Cinda, Alf and Syd, Michael and Kay, Melissa, Larry, Lexi and Luna, Michael Jay, Genevieve, Janel, Layla and Luna, Paul and Sandra, Jay, Lanna, Taylor, Palin and Dianne, Kristine and Gabriel, Marilyn, Jim, Mary-Therese and Stuart (x2) Janette and Charles, Barb and Tom and Annette.

Arrangements were by Kirikos Family Funeral Home, Inc. & Sierra Crematory, LLC, 303 N. Cedar St., T or C, NM 87901, 575/894-2574.
