Michael Hanon, age 67, formerly of Tucson, AZ, currently residing in Los Lunas, NM, since 2013, passed away Wednesday, June 29, 2016, at the Albuquerque Veterans Hospital after a year and six months battle of cancer.

He was a USMC Veteran who served two years active duty, one year in Vietnam, last year Camp Pen, CA, and two years reserve. Michael received an honorable discharge December 27, 1973. He was awarded the National Defense Service medal, Vietnam Campaign medal with device, Rifle Sharpshooter Badge, Vietnam Service medal with 1 star, and the Combat Action Ribbon.

He worked in construction before he finally went to work for the state and federal prison system and retired in 2011.

Michael was a member of the Wounded Warriors Healing Waters Project of Tucson, AZ, and after moving to New Mexico, The Albuquerque chapter. Michael was a member of the Old Pueblo Chapter Trout Unlimited, and loved to fly fish learning when he was 14 years old, he became an expert. He loved trying his own fly's which became very therapeutic for him. Michael also enjoyed hunting, not for sport but for providing his family with food from his hunts.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Ruth Hanon; brother, Walt and wife, Linda Lou Hanon; brother, Harold (PeeWee) Hanon; and sister, Patty and husband, Bob.

He is survived by his loving wife, Jacqueline M. Nix-Hanon, of Los Lunas, NM; sons, Jason Robert Hanon, Michael Ray Hanon and wife, Norma, Samuel Seth Hanon and fiance, Aissa Lopez; one great-grandchild as well as many nieces and nephews all of AZ; his two girls he helped raise, Lacy and Shavona Myhand; stepchildren, Dean Nix and wife, Stephanie of Los Lunas, and Janice Dowley of Los Lunas; and one step-granddaughter Briana Jo Sanchez-Nix.

Michael was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew him. RIP Semper Fi Michael Hanon USMC, husband, father, brother, and friend.
