Michael Jay Turner Obituary
Turner, Michael Jay

Michael Jay Turner, 59, passed away on May 10, 2016. He was born in Albuquerque on August 2, 1956 to JT and Idra (Reece). Michael attended Moriarty High School and soon after became the nation's youngest Chevron Station owner. During his career as a trader and entrepreneur he owned businesses in Arizona, Colorado and New Mexico. He also traveled the country dealing in antique knives, firearms, spurs and other Western collectibles.

He met his wife, Sue, at a young age with their first date being in second grade and eventually becoming high school sweethearts. They welcomed four children, Michael Jeremiah, Cara, Jenna and Jordan, during their 22-year marriage. Michael instilled many of his values in his children; especially his sense of humor, love of family, and his affection for the outdoors.

He was an accomplished hunter of game ranging from turkey to bear, and everything in-between. However, he didn't just "bring home the bacon," he was able to cook it as well. He learned southern style cooking from his mother and was famous for his baked ham and beef jerky. Michael loved vacationing with his family and they have fond memories of him singing along to Elvis and Jimmy Buffet on long road trips.

Michael is preceded in death by his mother, Idra (Reece) Turner and stepmother Frances Durham Turner.

He is survived by his father JT Turner of Moriarty; son Michael Jeremiah Turner and wife Jennifer of Edgewood; daughter Cara Curtiss and husband Chad of Albuquerque; daughter Jenna Turner of Moriarty; son Jordan Turner of Moriarty; and grandsons Trey Turner, Lucas Turner and Lawson Turner.

Visitation will be held at Harris-Hanlon Mortuary in Moriarty on Tuesday, May 17, 2016 from 4:00-6:00 P.M. Memorial service will be held at Valley View Christian Church in Edgewood on Wednesday, May 18 at 11:00 A.M. Arrangements were entrusted to Harris Hanlon Mortuary in Moriarty, New Mexico.
