Michael Joshua Martinez

Michael Joshua Martinez, age 35, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, passed away on January 18, 2018. He is survived by his beloved mother, Priscilla Hernandez Martinez; his father Michael (Juanita) Martinez; his siblings, Francesca, Matthew, and Victoria; his grandmother, Lillie Martinez; great-aunt, Libbie Waits; aunts, uncles, cousins; and his Yorkie, Ninja.

Michael Joshua is preceded in death by his grandfather, Michael Martinez; grandfather, Leo Hernandez; and grandmother, Manuelita Hernandez.

This is about a boy, a man, a dreamer, and a visionary, who saw the world through the lens of an artist, and a writer. It wasn't his ordained path to carry on in this world, he was transcending…always, up and away. We held on to his heels, pulling him down, but he needed to rise so that he could soar into worlds unseen by our eyes, but always seen through his.

After attending the University of New Mexico, he headed northwest to the Emerald City to live an adventure with his childhood friends, then to Brooklyn, New York. His profound joy of being captured the affections and imaginations of those who loved him. He collected hearts with his rapid-fire wit, his sharp perceptions about life, and his love of making others feel they belonged, no matter their station or circumstance in life.

More recently, he was collaborating with Meow Wolf, writing a science fiction series, steeped in New Mexico influence and culture.

Michael Joshua, you are released from your earthly cares. Your family, your Freeman's family, and your countless friends, all love you.
