Mildred Edith Hammer, age 77, a resident of Las Nutrias, NM, passed away on Saturday, June 13, 2016, after complications with Peripheral Neuropathy. She was born on September 23, 1938, the world was blessed with this gift whom, according to her husband of 59 years, was a living blue-eyed angel. With her family in one hand and her Bible in the other, the Lord peacefully called His blue-eyed angel home to continue watching over her family and friends from the doorsteps of Heaven. Mildred was born in Colorado Springs, CO, and grew up on the family ranch in Woodland Park, alongside her beloved twin sister and best friend, Hildred Davis. On November 22, 1963, she moved to Las Nutrias, NM, where she farmed and ranched with the help of her family. She was a retired volunteer for the Veguita Fire Department. An extremely talented seamstress who quilted between 500-600 quilts a year for veterans, and who's husband never wore a store bought shirt.

Mildred is preceded in death by her parents, Freddie and Evelyn Roberts; and her in-laws, Fritz and Mary Hammer.

Mildred is survived by her husband, Chuck Hammer; five children, Fritz and wife, Donna Hammer, Joyce and husband, Jim Lawson, William and wife, Carolynn Hammer, Lena and husband, Bud Herrera, and Evelyn Hammer and companion, Terry Thornton; siblings, Fay and wife, Verna Roberts, Bonnie Groy, and twin sister, Hildred and husband, Chuck Davis; grandchildren, Larrame (Sam), Loralee (Lee), Shalada (Alfred), Ria (Lisa), Jerrie Lynn (Travis), Jimmy (Melissa), Adora (Portor), Gary (Star), Amanda (Walter), Joe, Hannah (Jeremy), Loretta, William, and Grady (Jess); great-grandchildren, Brieanna, Cody, Austin, Claire, Latisha, Larrado, Joey, Gregory, Nathan, Owen, Trevor, Edward, and Amelia; extended family, Eunice and Steve Stevenson, Kathy and Wag Flanagan, Mildred and Woody Haynes, Frank and Doris Niner, Kathy and Edwin Esquibel, Butch Johnson, Bert West, Lois Pettis, Joann Othart and Ernestine Sawyer. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and many adopted grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

All services will be held at Sierra Vista Baptist Church in Rio Communities on Friday, June 17, 2016. A Celebration of Life will begin at 10:30 a.m. Please join the family at Manuel E. Sanchez Hall, in Las Nutrias, following the service to continue celebrating Mildred's life.
