Mildred E. Marrs

Mildred Marrs, age 87, of Tererro and Albuquerque, NM passed away peacefully November 14, 2017.

Mildred was well known for the saddles she made with her father and as the mountain woman living by herself near the Pecos Wilderness. As a young woman, Mildred loved horses. She won many competitions for her barrel riding and general horsemanship. Mildred lived at home with her mother and father most of her life taking care of her mother until she died and cared for her father until he passed. Mildred's dream was to live in the mountains. When her father died, she was able to make her dream come true. For many years Mildred lived near the Pecos Wilderness with family nearby during the Summer. Mildred would walk 7 miles one way to the post office and back. Mildred took a walk every day and loved the wildflowers, animals and birds. She cut and split all of her own wood which was her only heat source for the winter.

Mildred is survived by her sisters, Tenna Eckert and Ruth Boydston and her nieces, Teena Marcus, Sherry Gray, Lynn Marrs and Wendy Akers her nephew, Mike Marrs, and grand nieces and nephews.
