Muriel Montano Obituary
Montano, Muriel Gladys

At her home, with loving family and friends at her side, Muriel Gladys (Thatcher) Montano, our lovely 'Queen of England', passed into the merciful hands of our Lord on Monday night, August 22, 2016.

Muriel was born to Alfred and Loveday Thatcher on March, 21 1925 in Taunton, Somerset England, where she was raised with her two brothers and two sisters during World War II. When she was 18 years old, she met Paul (Pablo) Montano, who was a Private in the US Army allied forces stationed in Taunton and who would soon become the love of her life. Soon after, Paul and Muriel married and began their life's journey together.

At the end of World War II, Paul went back to his home country, and his War Bride, Muriel, soon followed. Muriel, along with their first two children, Nigel and Anthony (Tony), took an 11 day journey from Taunton across land and sea to reunite with Paul in Grants, New Mexico, where they continued to add to their family with the birth of their first daughter, Thelma.

In 1948, Paul and Muriel moved to Albuquerque where their family continued to grow, with the addition of Lorraine and Harold, as did their love for one another. During this time, Muriel developed an intense dedication and love for her children, a love she maintained throughout her life. This love of family extended through her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and her great, great grandchildren.

Always weathering trials and tribulations, Muriel never waivered in her love for her home country and for her love for her beloved Paul. Paul and Muriel enjoyed their later life together where any given weekend would, likely, find them enjoying time at the horse races or time at the bingo and poker tables in Vegas.

Paul died in 1993 leaving a huge void in Muriel's life, but as always, she stoically persevered and continued as the strength and soul of her family.

As her journey on this earth has come to an end, it is with a bitter joy for all of those who knew and loved her to know that she is once again reunited, arm and arm, with the love of her life, Paul. Long live our 'Queen of England'.

Muriel is survived by her children Nigel and Edna Montano, Tony Montano, Thelma and Frank Rey, Lorraine and Steve Franzoy, and Harold and Jeanette Montano.

Her grandchildren, Anthony Montano and wife Victoria, Michelle Montano and Marcus Miller, April Rey and Jason Jones, Paul Montano and Anna Ortega, Silesha Montano-Naden and husband Rich, Jason Rey, Chelsea Kouzmanoff and her husband Ky, Brooke Montano and Jesse Montano.

Her great-grandchildren, Chandlar, Chace, Anthony, Sabrina, Lindsay, Preston, Nathan, Perris, Chantelle, Javohn, Jerzie, Javion, Shenae, Shayla, and Shanelle.

And her great-great-grandchildren Sophia, Lorenzo and Darryn.

The family also wishes to acknowledge and send heartfelt thanks and gratitude to an amazing group of dedicated women who lived with and cared for Muriel in her later days: Evelyn, Dolores, DeeDee and Maria.

Interment will be on Monday, August 29th at 11:00AM at the Veterans National Cemetery in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

The family invites you to a reception to remember and celebrate Muriel's life after the interment starting at 2PM Monday, August 29th at El Pinto Restaurant, 10500 4th St NW, Albuquerque, NM 87114.
