Jones, Nancy Belle Barrett



Nancy Belle Barrett Jones passed peacefully away on May 18, 2017 in Las Cruces, New Mexico. She was born to Leo C and Martha E (Moore) Barrett on July 20, 1927 in Akron, Ohio. She graduated from East High School in Akron in 1945. She graduated from Ohio University in 1950 and worked as a teacher at the Wasatch Academy, Mt Pleasant, Utah for 5 years. She moved to Albuquerque, NM in 1955 and obtained her Master's degree at University of New Mexico in 1957. She married Ralph E Jones in 1958. She was a teacher in the Albuquerque Public Schools 1956-1960 and then 1980-1991. After retiring, she worked as an archivist for the Menaul Historical Library and did genealogical research as well as research on the history of the Presbyterian Church in New Mexico. She was a supporter of multiple Christian missions and during her college years did some mission work in Ohio and West Virginia.

She is survived by her sons Roger and Douglas as well as three grandchildren, Rebecca, Robin and David, as well as her brother Robert (Mike) Barrett of North Canton OH, & favorite niece Nancy McCoy Bouman of Pearland TX

She was a founding member of St Andrew Presbyterian Church and served as an elder/deacon and on many committees. She was active in Presbyterian Women on both the local and national level. She enjoyed genealogy, square dancing and quilting.

A memorial service will be held at St Andrew Presbyterian Church, 5301 Ponderosa Ave. NE., Albuquerque on 7/16/2017 at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations to The Menaul Historical Library at (505) 343-7480, 301 Menaul Blvd NE 87107.
