Orvis V. Creel Obituary
Creel, Orvis V.

Orvis Veston Creel of Albuquerque NM passed away at his home on April 17, 2016 at the age of 78. He was born in Fort Smith, AR on June 14, 1938 to Orvis Creel and Zella Baker. He moved to Albuquerque at the age of 18 and met his future wife Amy Leyba. They had an amazing 59-year marriage and had 3 loving children.

Orvis was an avid inventor, and entrepreneur. He was the first recipient of the Maxie Anderson Small Business Person of the Year Award. Orvis founded and built Desert Paper & Envelope, as well as a thriving development company for the industrial area of Albuquerque.

His passions extended to the community where he was inducted into the Masonic lodge in 1966 and became a Shriner in 1982. He was Director of the Director's Staff, as well as the Director for the Royal Order of Jesters. Orvis traveled with a group of Shriners called the Nomads. He was the wagon master for the Nomads and together with their caravan of RVs they visited much of the US, as well as Mexico.

His marriage with Amy is highlighted with travel to every corner of the earth and, with it, a wealth of information. His worldliness was unprecedented and truly inspiring. Orvis and Amy have seen more of this world than most people ever dream of. They were best friends, and Orvis sought to give Amy the world. They settled on visiting as much of it as possible.

Orvis is survived by his wife Amy Creel; younger sister Brenda DeMoss (Oakland); children Bruce (Deanna), Gary (Antoinette) and Ella (Sonny); six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Service will be held on Thursday April 21, 2016 at 11:00 am at Ballut Abyad Shrine Center, 6600 Zuni Rd. SE, Albuquerque, NM 87108, with reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers donations may be given in Orvis 's honor to Shriner Hospital for Children, 6600 Zuni SE, Albuquerque, NM 87108. It was an honor to have known him and he will be greatly missed.
