Patricia Ann Irving

Patricia (Patty) Ann Irving of Albuquerque, NM died on March 6, 2018 after a long, courageous battle with breast cancer. She was 87 years old.

Patty is survived by her husband, James Irving; her children, Scott Irving and wife Jennifer StClair, Blake Irving and wife Carol Hillygus-Irving, and Lisa Irving-Peterson and husband Shawn Peterson; and seven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Lori Irving.

Patty was born in Pekin, Illinois on, July 21, 1930 to Matthew and Margaret MacMillan. From an early age, Patty demonstrated an indomitable spirit and a passion for life. In 1952 Patty moved (much to her parents' chagrin) to California to pursue her dreams. A talented vocal artist, Patty appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show in 1953. She met her husband James a year earlier, when she jumped up on stage and requested to sing a song with a jazz quartet for which Jim played saxophone. Patty and James were married in her hometown of Zanesville, Ohio in June, 1954.

Patty's love for her family was passionate and unfailing. Her pride of her four children and seven grandchildren was stalwart throughout her life. Her love for others extended far beyond her family to everyone she came in contact with from co-workers to neighbors to her caretakers at the very end of her life. Patty was also deeply committed to civic responsibility. After her retirement from Conejo Valley Unified School District in California, Patty volunteered for the Assistance League in Albuquerque as well as tutoring for Albuquerque Public schools for over 20 years.

A private memorial service was held at the Morningstar Assisted Living Facility. In lieu of flowers, Patty asked that donations be made to the memorial scholarship fund established in honor of her daughter, Lori. Donations may be mailed to WSU Vancouver, c/o Lisa Ambrahamsson, 14204 NE Salmon Creek Avenue, Vancouver, WA 98686.
