Lett, Patricia Marie

Patricia Marie Lett, 77, a resident of Albuquerque since 1964, died January 4, 2016. She was born March 4, 1938, in Detroit, MI, the daughter of Robert and Jacqueline Bumford.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Robert A. Lett; her daughter, Karen Brugge; her son, David Lett; son-in-law, Steve Brugge; grandchildren, Sarah and Adam Brugge, all of Albuquerque. She is survived by many relatives in Michigan and California as well as countless friends who brought joy to her life.

Patricia graduated from Wayne State University in Detroit, MI, with a bachelor's degree in English in 1960 and a master's degree in secondary education in 1962. As a student, she had many leadership positions including president of the Association of Women Students. In 1962, she and her husband moved west first to Glendale, AZ, for a year of post-graduate school, then to San Diego, and finally to Albuquerque. She taught at Van Buren Middle School in the 60's and then raised her children before teaching at Del Norte High School for seven years. When La Cueva High School opened in 1986, she was the first English Department chairperson. She received the New Mexico Council of Teachers of English award for Excellence in English Education in 1987. In 1996 she took a position as a UNM supervisor of student teachers. In 1998 she retired after 21 years of public education service.

In retirement, she led a full life enjoying her family, especially her grandchildren, her friends and her garden. She was an active member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church serving in the areas of education and worship. Together she and her husband traveled, camped, and spent time with family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest that contributions be made to the Memorial Fund of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 6901 Wyoming NE 87109; the Storehouse, 106 Broadway SE 87102; or Animal Humane Association of New Mexico, 615 Virginia SE 87108.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, January 16, 2016, 10:30 a.m., at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 6901 Wyoming NE. Interment of the cremated remains will follow at a later date at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. Please visit our online guestbook for Patricia at
