Phil Chavez

Phil Chavez, age 75, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle, went to rest in our Heavenly Father's arms on Friday, December 15, 2017.

Phil is survived by his wife of 53 years, Pauline; his children, Charles Troy and wife, Amy; grandson, Ian Philip; Phyllis Anne Chavez Cordova; grandson, Julian Philip Cordova; and sister, Mary Chavez Casaus; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Phil was a member of both Our Lady of Annunciation Catholic Church and Sangre De Cristo Catholic Church.

Born in Estancia, NM to Felipe and Gertudes Chavez, he is preceded in death by brothers, Ismael and Moises Chavez. As a child, Phil contracted rheumatic fever and the illness led to lifelong heart problems, but this never seemed to slow him down until the very end of his life.

Phil moved to Albuquerque in 1958 with his family and graduated from Sandia High School in 1960.

Phil was a longtime Albuquerque hair stylist, owner of Lion's Mane Hair Studio. Phil taught himself to play the guitar as a teen and was a staple on the music scene for decades.

To be near Phil was to be near a live wire of energy and curiosity. He had an unrivaled work ethic. Phil dearly loved his family and reveled in the successes of his children, grandchildren, his nieces, nephews and friends.

Phil will be remembered for his kindness, humor and willingness to be at his best when things were at their worst.
