Johnson, Phyllis Ann

Phyllis Ann Johnson (nee Berry) passed away at home on the afternoon of the first day of spring, March 20th after a lengthy battle with cancer. She is survived by her daughter, Cynthia and partner, Jason; daughter, Suzie; son, Terry and wife, Joyce; daughter-in-law, Kim; granddaughter, Hannah; and her beloved dog, Blackie Rose. Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband of sixty years, Robert Lee Johnson (Bob) last November and her son Eric in June 2012.

Phyllis was born in Fort Dodge, Iowa on July 2nd, 1935. Although, she was awarded a scholarship for college, after high school, she worked at the local telephone company before marrying Bob on August 25th, 1956. Bob was a geologist and together with the four 'kids', they lived many places and traveled across the United States & the world; places including Fort Smith, Arkansas; Iowa City, Iowa; Midland, Texas; Casper, Wyoming; Brisbane, Queensland (Australia); Houston, TX; but Albuquerque was always home.

Phyllis had a deep love for animals & always put her husband & children before everything. She encouraged her children to do what they wanted in life & to live their dreams. Later she went back to school to become a paralegal & worked for several law firms in Houston. Phyllis was known for her sharp intelligence, her quick wit & sense of humor. She was loved by young & old. She had a curious mind & was a lively conversationalist. Phyllis' memorial will be help on Friday, March 31st at 10am at Prince of Peace Catholic Church. In lieu of flower, charitable donations can be made to the Animal Humane of New Mexico at 615 Virginia Street SE, Alb, NM 87108
