Phyllis Luthy Obituary
Phyllis Luthy

Phyllis Luthy passed away peacefully at home in Albuquerque, NM on March 14, 2018. She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Fred Luthy; and their three children, Jeffrey and wife, Daryl Luthy, Charles Luthy, and John Luthy. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Amber Luthy, Ashley and husband, Stephen Sargent, Steven Luthy, Scott Luthy and Clover Luthy. With all her heart she raised three handsome sons and later her two granddaughters, Amber and Ashley.

Phyllis was born November 10, 1937 in Hatch, NM to parents, Jeff and Dearie Hooker. She grew up in Hatch and then moved to Albuquerque in the ninth grade where she attended Lincoln Junior High School, then Albuquerque High School where she graduated. While studying at the University of New Mexico she married Fred Luthy in 1956.

Phyllis touched so many people in wonderful and memorable ways. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and loyal friend. Everyone lucky enough to have met her will remember her endless kindness, stunning beauty, amazing stories and charitable fundraising.

Her love for golf might have only been surpassed by her love for chile. Some called her the enchilada queen and if you ever tried her food you might do the same. She enjoyed golf, both watching and playing with professionals and celebrities, but most of all she loved spending many birthdays playing Pebble Beach.

Her eye for style was reflected in everything she did. She also had all the best dance moves, anything from the Two Step to the Twist. Phyllis was full of endless energy and loved music. She always believed that dancing was not only easy but necessary.

Phyllis loved her gorgeous home in the North Valley and beach house in Laguna Beach, both of which she designed and decorated. Her Christmas decorations, from lights to trees, were spectacular. She traveled all over the world with Fred and family, seeing the sites in the U.S., touring most of Europe, seeking the thrills in South Africa, and loving the beauty of Australia and New Zealand. Some of her favorite trips were the wild ones with Fred down to Mexico with three sons and boat in tow. Her adventures were as diverse and unique as the places she went and the people she came across.

A wonderful woman of honesty and character, Phyllis gave generously her wisdom, wit, joy, and love. She will be forever missed by all friends and family and remembered always by all who share her stories.

Phyllis loved a good party and there will be one in her honor to celebrate her life, Thursday March 22nd, 2018 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Albuquerque Country Club, 601 Laguna Blvd. SW. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the . Please visit our online guestbook for Phyllis at:
