Richard Clayton Wells Obituary
Richard "Dick" Clayton Wells

Retired Major Richard (Dick) Clayton Wells, USMC, 88, was called to his eternal resting place on October 30, 2018. As he left this world to join his late wife, Patricia Gagne Wells, he was surrounded by his devoted family. Richard is survived by his sister, Marjorie Woodin of Swartz Creek, MI; his daughters, Judith G. Rice, Jean Ann Plummer (Jim) of Albuquerque, NM; his grandchildren, Jo Ann Rice of Chandler, AZ, Jason Rice of Palmer, AK; and his great-granddaughter, Hannah Rice of Chandler, AZ. Richard was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and his siblings, Margaret, Henry, Herbert, Clifford, Donald, Eleanor, Ray and Arnold. Richard entered this world on February 19, 1930 in Danbury, CT, born to Clayton and Margaret Wells. In 1948, Richard enlisted in the Marine Corps and became a career serviceman. During his 25 years in the service, Richard traveled the world and held a variety of positions at stateside bases. He served in combat during the Korean and Vietnam wars. Wounded in the Vietnam, he was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. Despite long assignments away from his family, he loved the military life. He truly believed that "Once a Marine, Always a Marine." During his years in Albuquerque, Richard was a faithful member of the Kirtland Air Force Base Chapel. His friends from church have become like an extended family. They were there with prayers and support during some of Richard's most difficult moments and for that his family is truly grateful. Richard was a dedicated, loving husband and father. He loved to cook, garden and was an accomplished artist.
