Richard P. Gammie Obituary
Gammie, Richard P.

Richard P. Gammie, 82, our beloved husband and father, passed away on February 10, 2016. He was born on June 11, 1933, in Waukegan, IL, to George and Charlotte Gammie.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Joan. He is also survived by his children, Linda, Donna and Bill, and his grandchildren, Stephanie, Valerie, Rachel, Cassandra, and Ryan.

Richard served in the Army from 1955 - 1957, serving at a Nike Missile base in Vashon, WA. Then he was in the Army Reserves for four years. He graduated from Northern Illinois University with a Bachelor's Degree in 1958 and had a long and successful career with Sears in the Chicago area. Upon retirement in 1990, Richard and Joan moved to Cherokee Village, AR, where they spent the next 23 years with friends living on the lake. He was a member of the Cherokee Village Men's Golf Association and secretary of the Cherokee Village Street & Roads Committee. Richard was a past president of the Cherokee Village Kiwanis Club and worked tirelessly on their many projects, especially Children First. He was active in the church and within the community. They moved to Albuquerque two years ago to be closer to family. He had a great sense of humor. He enjoyed golfing and fishing and joking with friends. He was a lifelong Chicago Bears fan, and also rooted for the Arkansas Razorbacks. The cornerstones of his life were faith, family and friends, and he was blessed with an abundance of each.
