Volk, Richard D. (Dick)

Richard D. Volk (Dick) went to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 18, 2016 at the age of 87. He was born in Jeannette, Pennsylvania, to the parents of Sylvester and Catherine Volk. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Alice Stein. At the age of 16, Dick earned his private pilot license. He graduated from Jeannette High School in 1945, and went on to train and graduate as a pilot in the USAF, Class of 1948b. As a Captain and jet fighter pilot, he served in Okinawa and Kirkland AFB, NM. After his military service, he graduated in electrical engineering from the University of New Mexico, and was employed at Sandia National Laboratories until his retirement in 1990.

Dick had many passions in his life, including: 22 years with the Sandia Peak Ski Patrol, Exalted Ruler of BPOE, and a member of Quiet Birdmen, Order of Daedalians, and Military Officer fraternal organization. He enjoyed bridge, tennis and fly-fishing. He and Bobbie enjoyed traveling in their RV.

Above all, he dearly loved his family. He was married to the love of his life, Bobbie, for 64 years. He is survived by Bobbie and their four children, Denise Seavey (Knight) of Santa Fe, NM; Richard Volk (Dawn) of Annandale, VA; Bill Volk (Kim) of Montrose, CO and Mike Volk (Donna) of Telluride, CO. He has six grandchildren with a great-grandchild on the way. He is also survived by his sister, Cathy Schmidt (Dave) of Gainesville, VA.

A Memorial Service celebrating Dick's life will be held at Sandia Presbyterian Church on Monday, September 12, at 11:00 AM. A graveside service is planned at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to Sandia Presbyterian Church, 10704 Paseo del Norte NE, Alb., NM 87122 or the .
