Richard William Ford Obituary
Ford, Richard William

Longtime Albuquerque resident Richard William "Rick" Ford, age 72, passed away in Glendora, California on July 6, 2016. He died peacefully in his home, surrounded by his family who loved him dearly.

Rick was born in Layton, Utah on March 29, 1944 to parents Dean and Eva Ford. He graduated from Bountiful High School in 1962 and proudly accepted a Bachelor's Degree in Education from the University of New Mexico in 2009 at the age of 65. Rick served honorably for the United States Marine Corps in Vietnam from January 1966 - December 1968. He was married to Shelley Spilsbury in 1972 in Santa Barbara, Mexico. Rick and Shelley moved to Albuquerque in 1978 and lived here until 2015, when he moved to Glendora, CA.

Rick was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and uncle. His family was the most important thing in his life, and his grandchildren were his greatest joy. He loved to travel, and took every opportunity to visit new places and appreciate new things. Some of his favorite places included the family cabin in Pagosa Springs, CO, Lake Powell, and his own back porch. He enjoyed sports, and was a big fan of Lobo Basketball. He was learning to love the Golden State Warriors, rooted for any NFL team playing against the Dallas Cowboys, and was excited at the prospect of welcoming the Rams back to Los Angeles. He was also an enthusiastic Indy Car Racing fanâ€"one of the highlights of his life was driving in an Indy Car at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, CA in 2013. Rick was a fighter to the end, and his spirit will be with us through his children and grandchildren.

Rick is survived by his wife, Shelley, of Glendora, CA; daughters and sons-in-law Stacey and Jamey Osborne of New Braunfels, TX, Sarah and Craig Lumley of Mountain View, CA, Kellie and Richard Rich of Glendora, CA, and Jackie and Evan Ottesen of Knob Noster, MO; brother Keith Ford of Bountiful, UT; sister and brother-in-law JoAn and Don Reynolds of Snohomish, WA; grandchildren Olivia, Jaxon, Sevrin, Ella, Finnegan and Archer; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Eva (2010) and Dean (2012) Ford of Centerville, UT, and sister Kaye Webster (2008) of Valley Ford, CA.

Per his wishes, Rick's body has been cremated. We will celebrate his life on Friday, July 22 at 9:45 a.m. with Military Funeral Honors at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
