Robert Donald Brooks, age 93, passed away on Wednesday, November 16, 2016. He was born on April 7, 1923 in Oil City, PA to James and Elizabeth Brooks. He graduated from Oil City High School and married his childhood sweetheart, Eleanor Rembold. They were married for 33 years and she died in 1976. During World War II, Don trained as a pilot, graduating as a 2nd Lt. in March of 1945. After he completed his military service, Don worked at Kelly AFB in Texas and at Sandia National Laboratories and the U.S. Department of Energy in Albuquerque, NM. He lived in Albuquerque for 27 years and in Belen, New Mexico for over 30 years. Don married Elizabeth Golden. They were married for 26 years and she died in 2003.

Don was always active in volunteer work, especially with his churches, Faith Lutheran Church in Albuquerque and Valley Lutheran Church in Los Lunas. He was very active with the Boy Scouts of America, a member of the Kit Carson Council, teaching Philmont Scout Ranch, and a National Jamboree Leader. Don received the Silver Beaver Award for his service to the Boy Scouts and the Lamb Award from the Lutheran Church for his service to the Boy Scouts. He was also active with the Lutheran Brotherhood Fraternal society Branch and served as a member of the board with the New Mexico Lutheran Association. Don was an avid University of New Mexico Lobo supporter and held season basketball tickets since 1969, before the Pit even opened.

He was preceded in death by his twin sister; and two brothers.

Don is survived by his children, Carol Paup, Corene (Rick) Gutzmann, Larry (Debbie) Brooks, Ian (Teresa) Brooks and Jym Golden; along with nine grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 3 at Valley Lutheran Church, Hwy 47 in Los Lunas, New Mexico beginning at 11:00, with the family receiving friends at 10:00AM. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Valley Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 667, Los Lunas, NM 87031 in Don's honor.
