Robert Lon Poole, Jr.

Robert, Bob Poole Jr., loved riding his bicycle, hiking and being around people. He never met a stranger & he loved talking with a group or a single person.

Bob had a very distinguished career in science and technology which began as a College Professor and then going into the scientific community. He worked at various industries in the Northeast and then moved to Florida where he worked at the DOE Pinellas plant and later at Sandia Laboratories. He was the program manager for power sources at Pinellas and was instrumental in introducing new battery technologies. When the DOE decided to close the Pinellas plant, Bob shifted to technology transfer and led the effort to convert that facility from production to an incubator for start-up businesses in Southwest Florida. Bob joined Sandia in 1994 as a manager in the manufacturing technologies center until his retirement in 2005. As a manager he led a diverse group that specializes in vacuum, brazing, and thin film technologies and supported many Sandia programs and projects including Neutron Generator Production. Bob was active in efforts to increase diversity at Sandia and for years sat on a corporate committee working towards diversity at the Laboratory.

Bob is survived by his wife Carolyn Poole, of 49 years; his children, daughter Eileen Critchley; son Daniel Poole; his granddaughter Eden Critchley; son-in-law Eric Critchley; sister Elaine Beachy; niece Evelyn Serrano & her son Maverick Serrano.
