Robert Schoenfeld Obituary

Robert G. Schoenfeld

Robert ("Bob") Schoenfeld died January 27, 2018 at the age of 91. Bob was born in Topeka, Kansas on November 29, 1926, the only child of George and Lucille Schoenfeld. When he was 10 years old, the family moved to Oklahoma City. Bob lived in Oklahoma City for the next 22 years other than his time in Alaska serving in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He received three degrees, including a PhD in biochemistry, from the University of Oklahoma. He married his high-school sweetheart, Roberta, in 1946. In 1958, Bob moved with his family to Albuquerque. While working at the VA Hospital, he worked nights and weekends to start his own lab, Schoenfeld Clinical Laboratories, which he owned until his retirement. He and Roberta travelled extensively, and took up bike riding in their 60s. They moved to Vancouver, WA in 2015 to be closer to family, and in 2016 celebrated 70 years of marriage. Bob enjoyed flying remote control airplanes, riding bicycles with his biking group, racquetball, gardening, and talking with everyone he met. Bob is survived by his wife, Roberta; five children; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. We will all miss him dearly.

I worked for Bob for 10 years. I always admired and respected him. He was generous, honest and the best boss I ever had. He encouraged his employees to always strive for the best! He is sorely missed. Roberta was a true kind friend also. The racing commission "scandal" was a rough time. I saw the guys switch out specimens from one tool-box to another sneakingly afraid he or the toxicology tech would see the. They didn´t notice me watching from the chemistry lab area. He ended up selling the lab to Reference Lab....eventually selling out to Tricore. He talked a bit about the cattle mutilations, but plainly said he couldn´t talk about it. A wonderful boss. We had pool parties for employees every summer! He lives forever in my beloved memories.

Thanks, Robert Schoenfeld and Schoenfeld Clinical Laboratories for your conscientious and meticulous efforts in the clinical investigation of so-called "cattle mutilations." Your important contributions to the cause will not be forgotten.

Bob was a good man, I always enjoyed being around him, and so very proud to call him a friend. We lost touch with Bob & Bobby when Vicki and I left Albuquerque and I am just now learning of Bob's passing. Vicki is sitting next to me now with tears running down her face. Bob & Bobbie will forever be in our hearts. Condolences to Bobbie and family.
