Robert Schumacher Obituary
Schumacher, Robert "Bob"

Robert "Bob" Schumacher passed way on May 19, 2016.

Bob was a Navy Dive Bomber assigned to the USS Bennington in WWII. He received the Navy's Distinguisher Flying Cross for his part in sinking the Japanese Battleship, The Yamamoto.

Bob married Jacqueline Mitchell on July 24, 1948. They had three sons, Paul, Jim, and Gerry. Bob joined Lockheed in 1953 as a Test Pilot. In 1956 he began testing the U2 Spy Plane. In 1965 he became the first pilot to land the U2 on an aircraft carrier. Bob retired from Lockheed in May 1980 as the L1011 Chief Test Pilot.

Bob and Jacqueline moved to Albuquerque to be close to their family in 2007.

Bob is survived by his three sons and their wives along with six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Our Fathers' greatest love was his wife and his family. In return he was loved and respected by his children, daughters-in-laws, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His humble spirit has been an example to all of us.

Rest in peace Dad.
