Robert Lewis Squires died Thursday, February 1, 2018. He was born on December 16, 1946 to the late Virginia Barbour and Lewis Squires. He is survived by his three children, Jeanette Hargreaves, Timothy Squires, Catherine Beattie; seven grandchildren; and his six brothers and sisters. Robert achieved the rank of LT in the Vietnam Brown Water Navy and served aboard the USS Hornet as a navigation division officer for the retrieval of Apollo XI and XII. He married the late Eva Grover in 1973. They built a life in Albuquerque where Robert took on many roles in the community including hosting a radio show and newsletter, The Albuquerque Gardener, landscaping historic houses and parks in some of Albuquerque's most well-known neighborhoods. He also helped to facilitate the plans of the Botanic Gardens and eventually became a bilingual high-school science teacher, where he touched the lives of many students with his passion for sharing knowledge. A memorial for Robert will be held at the Veteran's Memorial Garden at 1100 Louisiana on Saturday the 10th at 1 pm. Remember the best of Bob, brother, dad as you stop to smell a freshly bloomed rose in Spring.
