Rosendo "Carretas" Romero

Rosendo Romero "Carretas" February 12, 1928 - September 26, 2017. Rosendo Romero, proud lifelong resident of Albuquerque, passed away at home in the South Valley.

Ross was born in Madrid, NM, and raised in Albuquerques neighborhood of Barelas. After service in the U.S. Army, he returned to Albuquerque and worked with the U.S. Postal Service. During his mail rounds in the San Jose neighborhood, Ross met Sophie Padilla. They married in 1954, and created a much-admired home environment in the South Valley. Ross had a wide-ranging 30-year career with the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers, Albuquerque District, serving as a photographer, printer, EEO Officer, and as an informal community services troubleshooter. As a moonlighting all-purpose photographer, Ross was well known for his special and personal touch when capturing community and family history at weddings, baptisms, and special events. Ross enjoyed a long retirement, diving into reading history and current events, working crossword puzzles, puffing his favorite pipes, and exchanging with a wide circle of family and friends. Ross was a dependable source of insight and inspiration, revolving around his lifelong mantra: "Be reasonable."

Immediate survivors include his wife, Sophie, his four sons, and brother Jose Ernesto.
