Roy William Shoup Jr.



Roy William Shoup Jr., "Bill," a long time resident of Albuquerque, New Mexico passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home with his loving wife by his side, on February 5, 2018.

Bill was born in Springfield, Illinois July 28, 1941 to Roy William and Dorothy Louise (Troesch) Shoup. His childhood was spent in Springfield and he graduated Cathedral Boys' High School.

Bill joined the Air Force and served honorably for eight years, including tours in Germany and Alaska. Upon discharge he attended New Mexico State University College of Engineering and was awarded Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Electrical Engineering. Bill was an honor student elected to Tau Beta Pi and remained a loyal "Aggie."

During Bill's professional career he served in the Department of Defense and was awarded the Meritorious Civilian Service Medal upon retirement. He considered his liaison with Sandia National Laboratory the most interesting, challenging and rewarding of his numerous and varied professional opportunities. Bill was a Life Senior Member of IEEE.

Upon retirement Bill pursued his interest in music, theatre, travel and photography. He was fortunate to have traveled to Alaska, Canada, Central and South America, Europe, Africa and South East Asia photographing animals and landscapes. Bill was an enthusiastic member of Enchanted Lens Camera Club and won awards for his photographs.

A kind, intelligent and gentle soul has passed to his place of peace and will be remembered and missed with fondness by those whose lives he touched.

Bill is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Sampson; siblings, Rebecca (Don) Daebelliehn, Robert (Jill) Shoup and David (Lynette) Shoup; children, William (Theresa) Shoup, Christine Shikenjanski, Debrah Shoup and their families; and step-children, Susan Christenson and John Sampson.

The family wishes to thank the physician and nursing staff of Prebytarian Cancer Center, MD Anderson Cancer Center and Palliative Care Team for their excellent and compassionate care.

Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held at Canyon Club at Four Hills, Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at 5:00 pm.
