Rubel Cipriano Gomez

MSG Rubel Cipriano Gomez, 69 of Albuquerque, NM, died Sunday, January 14, 2018. Rubel served in the U. S. Army and was a decorated veteran, serving three tours in the Vietnam War. Rubel earned several medals, including the Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Air Medal, Bronze Star Medal (two) and many others. He served proudly and honorably until his retirement in 1984.

He is survived by three children, Elizabeth 'Liza' Gomez Akley (James) of Bloomfield NM, Elicia Gomez Fortner (Jeremy, dec.) of Murfreesboro, TN, and Dax L. Gomez (Ashley) of Pleasant View, TN; four grandsons, Andrew Gomez, Robert 'RJ' Akley, Judson Fortner and McCoy Fortner; four sisters, Rosalia Hernandez, Sylvia Gomez, Molly Matlock and Dora Eaton; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Rubel Gomez II; parents, Fidel and Rose Gomez; sister, Oliva Armenta; and brothers, Fidel Gomez and Danny Gomez.

All services for Rubel will take place in Santa Fe, NM on Thursday, January 25, 2018. A rosary will be recited at 9:00 am at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Frances of Assisi, 131 Cathedral Place, Santa Fe, NM; a memorial Mass will follow at 10:00 am. The Rev. Adam Ortega y Ortiz will officiate. Interment will take place at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 1:30 pm with full military honors.
