Russell F. Shaw Obituary
Shaw, Russell F. M.D.

Dr. Shaw passed away on April 15, 2016. Born in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, Russ attended local schools before graduating from Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island in 1955. It was at Brown University that he met Cynthia - his wife of 59 years. His interest in medicine took him to Albany Medical College in Albany, New York where he earned his medical degree. After medical school, he chose to specialize in pediatrics and completed his residency in pediatrics in Columbus, Ohio. He then completed two years of service in the Public Health Service in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Russ then had a successful pediatric practice in Los Gatos, California for several years. In 1971, he began a pediatric practice in Los Alamos, New Mexico. After several years of caring for children in northern New Mexico, Russ studied and became specialized in Occupational and Environmental Medicine. He worked as one of the Occupational Medicine physicians at Los Alamos Nuclear Laboratory for several years. Upon retiring from LANL, Russ then worked as an Occupational Medicine physician in Amarillo, Texas for 3 years.

Since his college days, Russ had a great interest and fascination with genealogy. He travelled far and wide researching much needed information for dozens of research projects he completed. He enjoyed the challenge of discovering interesting facts about individuals and families that he studied over the years and he published numerous genealogy articles.

Russ is survived by his wife, Cynthia Dexter Shaw and four children- Pamela Shaw of Rockvale, Tennessee, Christopher Shaw of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Andrew Shaw of Palmdale, California, and Douglas Shaw of Colorado Springs, Colorado. He is also survived by his brother, Kenneth Shaw of Providence, Rhode Island and Von Wagoner of Lakewood, California, who came to join the family when he was a teenager.

A private celebration of Russ' life will be held by the family in the near future.
