Gallegos, Sadie Dee



Sadie Dee Gallegos, passed away on Sunday June 4, 2017 at home after a six-year battle with cancer.

Sadie was born in Ruthern, NM to Roy and Cleo Stapp on December 14, 1957. She was raised in Albuquerque, NM and graduated from West Mesa High School in 1975. She attended NMSU from 1975 to 1978.

In 1979, she married her husband Frank Gallegos and together they had two daughters. Sadie worked for the State of New Mexico Juvenile Prosecution Division from 1979 until she retired in 2006 after 25 years of service. In 2009, Sadie went to work for the district attorney's office in Valencia County and worked for them until March of 2017 when she became too ill to work.

Sadie loved life and enjoyed spending as much time as she could with her four grandchildren who were the light of her life, her family, and spending time at her lake home in Elephant Butte, New Mexico. She often said that had she known how wonderful grandchildren are she would have had them first.

She was a force of nature and strong until the very end. She accepted her death with amazing strength and dignity. The world is a better place to have had her in it, and the world will never be the same with her gone. She was blessed in the last days of her life to have by her side many friends and family. Her husband, mother, daughter Jessica, and especially cousin Daniel "Sonny" Valdez and wife Patsy who were instrumental in making sure that the last few days were peaceful and comfortable.

Sadie is survived by her husband Frank of 38 years; mother Cleo Stapp; father-in-law Rudy Martinez Sr.; daughters Lesley Corlis and husband Ryan and Jessica; grandsons Tyler (Ty-Ty) Corlis, Connor (Con-Con) Corlis, and Gabriel (Gabie) Corlis; granddaughter Tessa (Tessie Margret) Corlis,; aunt and godmother Rosie Valdez; aunts Irma Trujillo and Joann Wright; brothers-in-law Jerry Gallegos and wife Julie, James Gallegos and wife Della, Pete Gallegos, Rudy Martinez Jr and wife Gloria, Michael Martinez and wife Freda, and Ronald Martinez and wife Delores; her sisters-in-law Patricia Montoya, Karen Padilla and husband Zoilo, Beverly Anaya and husband Gilbert, Gloria Apodaca, Suzanne Striet and husband Bob, Marianne Baca and Sylvia Nuanes. She also had a large extended family that included her cousins Daniel "Sonny" Valdez and wife Patsy, Lajuana Velez and husband Jose, Peggy Lopez and fiance Lou Chaves, Rosita Rivera and husband Michael, Judy Valdez and husband Skip Massie, Cindy Mora and husband Art, Randy Trujillo and wife Mona, Michael Trujillo, Ronald Valdez and wife Claudia, Johnny Valdez, Joey Valdez. Sadie was blessed with one Godchild Hailey Valdez who lives in Phoenix, Arizona and an amazing best friend Marla Carmody of 38 years. She had numerous nieces and nephews that included great and great-great nieces and nephews as well.

Sadie was preceded in death by her grandparents Bill and Margaret Stapp, and Juan and Senida Lopez; father Roy L Stapp; sister Gladys J Stapp; mother-in-law Annie Martinez; brothers-in-law Carlos Gallegos, Richard Martinez, Johnny Martinez, Art Montoya and Tony Nuanes; uncles Paul Trujillo and Daniel Valdez Sr.

Pallbearers will be her beloved grandchildren Tyler, Connor, Gabriel and Tessa Corlis.

Flowers can be sent or donations in her name to the New Mexico Cancer Society.

Services will be held on Friday, June 16, 2017 at the Sangre de Cristo Church, 3466 Hwy 47, Los Lunas. Visitation will be from 9:00 to 9:30, Rosary from 9:30-10:00, Mass from 10:00-11:00. Burial to follow at 12:30 at Gate of Heaven (Paseo del Norte & Wyoming).
