Shirley Adams Obituary
Adams, Shirley Florence

Surrounded by loving family, Shirley F. Adams passed from this earth 11/7/16 to rejoin her beloved husband John. Shirley was born 5/13/1924 on a farm near Rush City, Minnesota to Elmer and Jessie Robinson. She was the second of seven children.

Shirley attended a one-room schoolhouse until attending and graduating from Rush City High School.

During the Second World War she served as a nurse in the Women's Army Corp where she tended to wounded soldiers returning from the war. A task she found very rewarding. It was here that she met John Adams when he came to visit a wounded comrade. Thus began a loving relationship that would last the next 67 years. They were married in August of 1946.

John's employment took them from California to Los Alamos, NM, to Lake Charles, LA, and eventually to Albuquerque, NM in 1957 where they remained until they passed (John in 2013). In Albuquerque they established roots and raised their boys.

Once the boys were old enough Shirley went to work at APS as a cook and a baker. A job she was uniquely qualified for as she was an outstanding baker and loved sharing Christmas breads with friends and neighbors, and baking all manner of sticky biscuits, cookies, pies and bread for her family.

After retirement Shirley and John spent summers crisscrossing the U.S. and Canada in their R.V.'s with their treasured springer spaniels. There was no adventure to big for mom and she enjoyed every minute of the traveling and camping.

Mom was a kind and gentle soul who enjoyed and reveled in the simplest things in life. One of her joys was cutting and stacking the winter firewood. She especially enjoyed sitting and watching all kinds of birds come to her many feeders. A card shark at Cribbage and she really enjoyed jigsaw puzzles.

Shirley took great pride in her family and loved her "boys", who benefitted immeasurably from the example she set, the steady loving hands guiding and supporting her family as we navigated the potholes growing up and on into adulthood.

Shirley was preceded by husband John, her parents Elmer and Jessie and brothers Raymond and Ronnie. She is survived by sons Jay (Pam), Brian and Ken (Sally). Grandchildren Amanda, Ron, Jared, Bryce and Tracey. Great-Grandchildren Jay, Aralyn and Bailey. Sisters Arlene, Sydney and Katy and brother John.

Shirley will join John in the Santa Fe National Cemetery.

God Speed Mom!
