Sidney Ray Meadows Obituary
Meadows, Sidney Ray

Sidney Ray Meadows "Sid", age 86, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather passed into the loving arms of Jesus on Friday evening, January 15, 2016.

Sid was born on November 21, 1929 in Cullman, Alabama to Mildred and Paul Meadows. He was the second of three children: Paul Jr. and Beth. At the age of seventeen Sid joined the United States Navy. He was an Advanced Electronics/ Computer Specialist (AECS) Chief Petty Officer E-8. He served his country for twenty-three years, including three tours of duty aboard the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Ranger. While in the Navy he met and married Katherine Hollingsworth, the mother of his four children: Stephen, Holly, Mark and Julie. He and Judy Smith were married in 1981 and were married for almost 35 years (in March). He also gained two step-children Sharon and Barry. Following his naval service he began a career in the health care sector working at Presbyterian and University Heights Hospitals. He then went to work in the medical supplies business for many years. Later he worked at Baldridge Lumber, a job he really enjoyed, and made many friends there. He stayed until they went out of business. Everyone loved Sid's dry if not colorful sense of humor. He could always be counted on to provide the answers to any tough questions on most any subject. He excelled at crossword puzzles, usually completing at least one a day. He loved gardening and fixing things or anything that gave him an opportunity to tinker with his tools. In 2015 Sid acknowledged Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, therefore, we are comforted knowing he went immediately to Heaven to be with our Father.

Sid was predeceased by his parents, his older brother Paul Jr., his beloved daughter Holly, and her mother Katherine. Also by his precious dog, Whiskey, who died two weeks before him.

He is survived by his wife Judy; sons Stephen (Marie) Meadows, El Paso, TX, and Mark Meadows, Yucca Valley, CA; daughter Julie Meadows, Albuquerque, NM; sister Beth Wamp, Chattanooga, TN; Sharon Smith, Albuquerque, NM; Barry Smith, Albuquerque, NM; and grandchildren Chelsea Meadows, Albuquerque, NM, Stephen Meadows Jr., El Paso, TX, Jennifer Brown (Kevin), Portland, OR, John Winemiller (Haley), Austin TX, Daniel Baca (Corie), Little Rock, AR, Zack Meadows, Albuquerque, NM; and five great-grandchildren. He was loved very much and will be truly missed.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Wounded Warriors Project or the Animal Humane Association. There will be a service at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, January 22, 2016. Those who will be attending, please meet at Cross Christian Church located at 6721 Edith Blvd. NE, Suite C (two blocks north of Osuna, on the west side of Edith) by 1:30 p.m.. There will be a reception to follow at 5:30 p.m. at Mario's located at 5700 4th Street NW (one block north of Montano on the west side of 4th Street).
