Thomas E. Greacen III

Thomas Edmund Greacen III, passed away on Monday, October 30, 2017 of a heart attack. He had genius in him. A photographic memory. He was a rare breed of Native American historian - having spent the majority of his years as a 'white man on the Rez' (Hopi, Navajo, Jicarilla Apache) living and teaching in the schools of Southwestern tribes. He was deeply non-violent. A long-term Quaker. His soul was a casualty of the Vietnam war.

He sang with a deep resounding baritone, picked a mean banjo, played the oboe in the Princeton orchestra and was drum major of the Princeton marching band. He was a member of Veterans for Peace and the NM Peace Choir. He could strike up a conversation with anyone, anywhere. He truly loved people.

He was unpredictable, loved adventure and leaves a legacy in ours hearts of a passion for justice and a fine appreciation of our nation's complex cultural inheritance.

Tom, Dad, Brother, Grandfather, Cousin, we pray for your spirit's light as you return again to the One. You will be greatly missed.
