Bermudez, Tonie

Tonie Bermudez 89, peacefully passed away on Saturday, April 22, 2017, in Las Vegas, NV, where she resided. She was surrounded by her loved ones. Tonie was born June 13, 1927, in Truchas, NM, the daughter of Enrique and Beatrice Ortiz. She wed the love of her life, Joe Bermudez, on June 9, 1944. He preceded her in death January 8, 2013. They were married for 67 blissful years. They are now reunited in eternal life.

Tonie was a devoted wife and mother. As a homemaker, she supported Joe throughout his career moving and living all over the USA, Central and South America, and the Caribbean. Although having several residences, she made a home for her family no matter where they lived. She loved outdoor activities like gardening, fishing, and camping. Her favorite hobby was a lucky slot machine or a game of bingo. She always believed in spreading a little luck onto others. We will miss her witty and humorous personality, her facial expressions, and her food, especially her empanadas and biscochitos. We celebrate her life and thank our Lord for the long and fulfilling life Tonie had.

In addition to her husband Joe, she was preceded in death by her parents Enrique and Beatrice Ortiz, her mother and father-in-law, Felix and Anita Bermudez, brothers Gilbert and Richard Ortiz, sister Emiliana Ortiz, and grandson Eduardo Houser (Pepe) Batista.

Tonie is survived by her sister Cristina Montoya, Tonie's children, Linda Castillo and partner Ken, Jim Bermudez and wife Mary Louise, Isabel Casaus and husband Michael (Mike), Rachel Mora and husband Robert, and Julie Gonzales and husband Robert (Bobby). She is also survived by her grandchildren Daniel Pacheco, Valerie Gallegos, Monique Bermudez, Vanessa Yates, Marcos Bermudez, Arturo Gonzalez, Nick Gonzalez, Nicolas Mora (Nic), Julian Mora, Catrina Mora, and Jerren Bermudez and 28 great-grandchildren with one on the way. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Lita Ortiz, Delfinia Gonzales, and Celia Bermudez, brother-in-law Jack Bermudez and wife Nohemi, and many nieces and nephews.

At a future date, not yet scheduled, the family will have a burial service for both Tonie and Joe Bermudez. Tonie's wishes were for her and Joe to be returned to New Mexico. She wanted both to be placed under a tree, in an area where there was beautiful green grass. Mom selected their permanent resting place at Sunset Memorial Park in Albuquerque.

Our family would like to thank you for all your love and support during this difficult time.
