Victoria Tietje Obituary
Tietje, Victoria

Victoria Tietje, age 55, died peacefully on June 30, surrounded by loving friends and her sister Lauren. Victoria touched this world with her brilliant, clear mind even as she struggled with BiPolar Disorder. She advocated tirelessly for all persons affected by mental illness and drug/alcohol addictions, and wrote a remarkable book, "Finding the Fire; An Everyday Resource for Anyone Affected by Mental Illness." She held dual Master's degrees in Early Childhood Education and Special Ed, as well as a massage therapy license and extensive training in the culinary arts. She was an intensely creative person, a visual artist and a writer with a gift for poetry who loved gardening and having her hands in the earth. Her spiritual life was rich and her practice of Vipassana meditation gave her great peace of mind.

Victoria is survived by her sisters, Hilary Young, Suzanne, Alicia, Martine and Lauren Tietje; brother Timothy Tietje; her son Ryan Mart; seven nieces and nephews and extended families.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 8, at 5:30 pm at the Albuquerque Vipassana Center, 200 Rosemont NE. To honor Victoria's courageous spirit, donations may be sent to National Alliance on Mentally Illness, 2015 Wyoming NE, Suite E, ABQ, NM 87112.
