Vivian Carlos Romero


Vivian C. Romero, age 75, a resident of Belen, NM, passed away on Sunday, December 17, 2017 in Cuba, NM, after performing with the Our Lady of Belen Los Pastores Saturday night. He was a member of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church and a choir member of the San Clemente Catholic Church. Vivian performed with the Los Pastores group for several years throughout the state of New Mexico. He was a well-known area musician playing the accordion and the guitar at various Catholic Church's throughout the Rio Grande Valley. He also played for many years for the senior citizens in the area. Vivian retired from the IBEW Electrical Union Local 611 after 45 plus years of outstanding service and worked at many high profile jobs throughout the US including Intel and Los Alamos National Laboratory. He earned the nickname, "Rainbo," for his colorful personality.

Vivian was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Virginia G. Romero; his grandson, Martin Luis Romero; parents, Santiago G. Romero and Elvira Bustamante Romero; three siblings, Paul Romero, Casamira Chavez and James Romero. He is survived by his three sons, John James (Cindy), Eugene (Linda), and Tobias (K.J.); six grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and brothers, George and Joe (Lilly). He is also survived by his loving nieces and nephews.

All services will be held on Friday, December 22, 2017 at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church. A Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., with a Rosary to be recited at 11:00 a.m., and a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Interment will take place at a later date in Riley, NM. Urnbearers will be his grandchildren. Honorary urnbearers will be his fellow musicians.
