Wilford Norman Morris Obituary
Morris, Wilford Norman

Wilford N. Morris, 84, much loved Dad, Papa and Father-in-Law; a resident of Bernalillo, NM, unfortunately died, under the care of Presbyterian Rust Hospital in Rio Rancho, NM, early morning on Monday, January 11, 2016. Norman was a strong survivor of Kidney Cancer in 1995; second time around with Kidney Cancer also with pancreatic tail lesion mass over the last two years.

Norman was preceded in death by his loving wife of almost 54 years, Carol Jennett Morris, 72, on July 29, 2013; unfortunately died, under the care of Rio Rancho Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Rio Rancho, NM.

They leave behind their daughter and caregiver, Norma Gale Morris-Powdrell, only one and special grandson, Richard Morris Powdrell, 18, both of Bernalillo; and son-in-law, David Powdrell of Albuquerque, NM.

Wilford Norman Morris was born on September 29, 1931 to Wilford Maehue Morris and Ellen Mae Robertson-Morris in Colorado City, Texas. Norman's Step-Mom, Fronia Elizabeth Scott - Morris; Brother, Douglas Wesley Morris; Sister, Gwendolynn Joyce Peterson; and Brother-in-law, Larry James Younce, all preceded his death. He is survived by one Sister, Sharon Mae Reynolds of El Cajon, California.

Wilford Norman Morris was U.S.A. Korean Conflict Era Navy Veteran. On November 7, 1951, Norman received an Honorable Discharge from the United States Navy, in San Diego, CA, USS Chauncey, rating Fireman Apprentice.

Norman worked with the Southern Union Company at the Star Lake Compressor Station, 50 miles west of Cuba, NM, from 10/1/61 - 10/1/72. He transferred to Peak Shaving - Alameda Standby Plant in Alameda, NM, through 1987. He then transferred to Bernalillo Gas / Propane Plant in Bernalillo, NM, through 1993. Norman retired from Gas Company of New Mexico in 1993 with 32 years of service. His retirement years were very difficult; resulting from health, financial, and personal family issues. Life was unfair and undeserving!

Norman was a strong, intelligent, and hard worker all of his life. He volunteered and held all offices in the Lion's Club in Cuba and Albuquerque; he also worked with United Way in Albuquerque. He was a generous, loving and a great person who meant a lot to all his family and friends.

Cremation by Riverside Funeral Home in Albuquerque and an above ground urn burial site will be scheduled in the summer for Wilford Norman and Carol Jennett Morris with Military Honors at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. A private memorial will be held at the Committal Service Area at the Veterans' Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe, NM. This will be their final resting place! Thank you both so so very much for everything!
