William Henry McGuill Sr. Obituary
McGuill, William Henry Sr.

William McGuill, 89, beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away April 20, 2016, surrounded by loved ones. William was born on August 8, 1926, in Sioux City, Iowa to Joseph J. McGuill and Mary Ellen O'Hare-McGuill.

He is survived by his wife Bobbie Lue Meigh-McGuill, and a clan of seven children, 13 grandchildren, and 14 great- grandchildren.

William served in the U.S. Army as a chaplain's assistant and a topographical draftsman during WWII. After leaving the military, he studied to be a Maryknoll missionary, but instead pursued a degree in English and received a Bachelor of Arts in English. In 1952, he graduated from Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa and married the love of his life Bobbie Lue Meigh-McGuill, a graduate of Clarke University in Dubuque, IA.

William, Bobbie, and their seven children lived throughout the East and Midwest before William's retirement in 1977. William retired as Regional Chief Postal Inspector where he directed the Midwest Operations of the nation's oldest federal law enforcement agency. William and Bobbie retired in Albuquerque in 1977. In 1985, with the help of his wife Bobbie, daughter Mary, and granddaughter Megan, William built a cabin on the family land in the Big Horn Mountains of Wyoming. William looked forward to spending every summer at the cabin with his family. He got a kick out of teaching his grandchildren his favorite Frank Sinatra songs to sing around the campfire.

William acquired his Irish/American dual citizenship in 2007. He was proud of his Irish heritage and culture and instilled this pride in his children. He taught his children the value of faith, family, love, and loyalty. He was a true patriarch. His children and grandchildren often looked to him for advice and guidance in their own lives.

He is preceded in death by his father, Joseph J. McGuill, Sr., mother Mary Ellen O'Hare-McGuill, grandmother Mary Ellen Power-McGuill, grandfather William H. McGuill, uncle Monseigneur William H. McGuill, and sister-in-law Jean McGuill.

He will be greatly missed by his beloved wife of 65 years, Bobbie Lue Meigh-McGuill; his brother Joseph J. McGuill, (Joanne); his son William H. McGuill, Jr., (Audrey); son Robert J. McGuill, (Sheila); daughter Mary R. McGuill, (Richard Townsley); son Joseph J. McGuill, Jr. (Binh Dickson); son Patrick M. McGuill; daughter Moya A. McGuill (Eddie Montoya); daughter Maura E.
