Naylor, Winifred

Winifred Jean Naylor, longtime Albuquerque resident passed away on February 6 at the age of 95.

She was born in Columbus, Ohio to Edward and Nell Norris, and was the youngest of three daughters. After her mother passed away at the age of three, Edward took Winifred and her older sisters Mary and Francis to live in a 100-person town in southern Ohio to stay with her two aunts.

Two weeks before the end of World War II when rumors circled that it was all over, Winifred traveled with her sister Mary to Time Square in New York City to celebrate the end of the war. There's even a picture of her on the front page of The Daily News.

In 1947, Winifred married Harry Wilken Naylor, the couple had two children Deborah and Mark. They moved to Albuquerque in 1968 and Winifred began her career at the University of New Mexico. She first worked in Student Services then as an administrative assistant for the School of Medicine Library. Winifred helped to set up the office of the Child Psychiatric Center in the mid-seventies then moved to the UNM Heights Mental Health Clinic before retiring in 1988.

She was an active member of the Ridgecrest Christian Church (RCC) and one of the founding members of the New Mexico Organic Society. Winifred is survived by her daughter; Debbie, son; Mark, four grandchildren; Sean, Tim (Megan), Colin (Emily), Bridget (Adam) and three greatgrandchildren; Brahm, Alice and Kiera.

A Memorial Service will be held at Ridgecrest Christian Church, 5300 Eastern Ave. SE, Albuquerque, NM on March 25, 2017 at 11:00 am.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Winifred's name to Joy Junction at PO Box 26568, Albuquerque, NM 87125 or Roadrunner Food Bank, 5840 Office Blvd NE, Albuquerque, NM 87109.
