What can I possibly say about my brother Mike that anyone who knew him doesn't already know. He was the strength in our family when it was needed, the level headed one with all the knowledge when that was needed. He was my shoulder to lean on and the ear I needed. Already I've caught myself wanting to ask his advice on several different topics just this week. My brother, I'll miss you every day until we meet again.

Mike was one of sixteen Thomas cousins on his mother's side of the family. Since his father's passing, he has brought his mother to several of the family reunions. I was always impressed by his loving kindness as he made sure his mother was able to visit with her family. As I have read through the other posts from his fellow workers, I realize the imprints that his life has left on so many people. We will all miss our dear cousin.

The world has lost a great man, but he is at peace now and no longer suffering. I consider Mike a close and dear friend. We started working together at Sandia Labs in the early eighties. We were both ex-Navy and shared many a sea story. We had an instant connection due to our similar jobs in the Navy. He continued in the Naval Reserve and would come back with even more stories. Mike could fix anything. He was a analyst, programmer and an outstanding Metrologist. Not weather, but Measurement Science. Even after we both had left Sandia, we stayed in contact. I reached out many times for his advice for work and personal issues. I talked with him a week before he passed and you would never know he was suffering by talking to him. He always had a positive attitude and the continuing hope he was going to beat this thing. I miss you Mike. Rest in Peace brother.

Dear Cousins, May Jesus hold you all close in His hands as you journey along this path. May past memories bring joy. Remember, those who know Jesus are now in our futures for we will reunite one day in heaven.

Thank you everyone for your sweet condolences and remembrances of my big brother, Mike, or Mikey as we called him in his early days. He was larger than life and always offered his help throughout my life. Mike was fearless in his battle with prostate cancer and kept much of the struggle to himself, never wanting us to worry about him. My husband and I were able to bring our mother to see Mike just two days before he took his last breath. On that Tuesday, he was able to converse with us, even while experiencing some pain and discomfort. He brought up stories from his childhood and apologized to Mom...."sorry I ate that brown shoe polish". :) Even in his darkest days, he made an effort to brighten the room. In every email and conversation I had with Mike over the summer, he always ended with, "I will praise Him in the storm".

Every once in a great while comes along an individual with special qualities that makes the world a little bit better. Mike was one of those individuals. Mike was kind, witty, intelligent, accomplished, caring, and giving. Every one of us who knew Mike respected him, admired him, and enjoyed his company.
Professionally, Mike was the backbone of our group. He managed the contractual and financial aspects of our business. Technically, he was a Subject Matter Expert. I respected and admired Mike for his technical abilities. But mostly I admired him because he was an extraordinary human being. He had a wonderful outlook toward life. I truly admired Mike's courage and positive attitude throughout his battle with his cancer. Even through his final days he carried a smile and always had something funny and witty to say. Mike taught us that there is more to life than just work. He taught us to embrace life along with all its faults and all its wonderfulness. But more importantly, he taught us how to be better human beings.

Working with Mike was an absolute joy. He was always upbeat and made the workday's bright. He loved to share is knowledge with others, and was quick to lend a helping hand. He participated in the group's outside events, providing expertise in both the shooting sports and bocce-ball. What I will miss the most are his instant messages that brought fun and laughter when days got dull or hectic. I will always remember this teammate in the F-18 logistics 'family'.

Mike was a great person to work with and I always enjoyed talking with him about all types of topics. He was so knowledgeable, soft spoken and always willing to help. He had a great sense of humor too. I will miss Mike, he was taken much too soon. I will keep his Family in my prayers.

Mike was a good man and willing to share his knowledge. He helped me many times when needed. Even at Boeing when I was his mentor, he could still teach me a few things. He will be missed by all.
