Georgia Flood Obituary

Lifelong Alaskan and Kenai resident Georgia Ann Flood, 52, died peacefully Sept. 18, 2009, in her sleep at home. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Peninsula Memorial Chapel, 5839 Kenai Spur Highway. A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Peninsula Grace Brethren, 44175 Kalifornsky Beach Road, Soldotna. Pastor Keith Randall will officiate. Flowers will be accepted at the Peninsula Memorial Chapel. Georgia will be laid to rest next to her son, Ryan Flood, in the Kenai City Cemetery. She was born May 4, 1957, in Anchorage. Georgia was an active member of the Native community, exhibiting a lifelong love for and commitment to the land and her people. She was especially proud of her work with CIRI as the face of shareholder relations in Kenai throughout the 1990s, and her association with the Kenaitze Indian Tribe. Her family wrote: "Georgia was a beloved mother and wife and is remembered fondly for her love, humor, courage, strength, determination, her faith in Christ and her devotion to her family and friends. "Through 32 years of marriage to her husband, Tom, he and their children Richard, Ryan, Randon and Robert formed the center of her universe. With the birth of their granddaughter, Jaydra Ann Flood, Georgia relished a new role of grandmother, embracing every moment showering her with love and care. "Georgia was a survivor and fighter of such tenacity that it amazes all who knew her. Each time Georgia was faced with yet another setback to her health, she quickly rallied to the task at hand and, with her chin up, fought bravely. "Georgia was a very loving and generous woman who took in many to her home, either a wayward kid or animal, and would without hesitation proceed to set them straight and tell 'em like it is, with her usual candor and compassion. "Georgia enjoyed bowling and playing bingo, and she was especially fond of gambling and dirty jokes. All who met Georgia will remember her fierce love for her family, her friends, her community and her zest for life. She was a dynamic force, a character beyond compare. Her memory will be cherished and she will be deeply missed." Georgia was preceded in death by her son, Ryan Alan Flood; and brother, Odman Schmalzried. She is survived by her husband, Thomas; sons, Richard and his wife Mariah, Randon, and Robert and his fiance, Mandy Elkins; granddaughter, Jaydra Ann Flood; parents, Mildred and George Schmalzried; mother- and father-in-law, Harold and Jo Flood; sister, Rhonda Koski; and brother, David Schmalzried; brothers-in-law, Rocky DeMello and wife Lisa, and Mark Flood; sister-in-law, Terri Flood; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and other family members too numerous to mention but ever dear to her heart. Donations and condolences may be sent to P.O. Box 493, Kenai 99611. Arrangements were made by Peninsula Memorial Chapel.

I was so saddened to hear about the passing of Georgia. Georgia and I went to part of grade school and part of high school together and were like sisters in our younger days. She was a great friend. We would loose touch over the years but when ever we would come back together it was like we had just spoken the day before. I remember the last time I spoke to her and her telling me she was having some medical problems, she said she was putting her faith in god and still never lost her sense of humor. My deepest sympathy goes out to the Flood and Schmalzried family.

I so sorry to hear about your wife, mother, grandmother, Georgia. May you find comfort in each other and in God's word. Psalms 145:14 shows us that God is giving support to those who are down, and raising up all who are bowed down. He will satisfy every need.

I would like to express my deepest sympathy to your family. It has always been said that the wife and mother is the “heart” of the home. May you find strength from God to let the spirit of your home continue to shine her warmth. (2 Corinthians 4:7)
