David Komakhuk Obituary

David Alexander Komakhuk, 19, died Nov. 8, 2010, in Anchorage.

A funeral will be at noon Saturday at ChangePoint Church, 6689 ChangePoint Drive. Pastor Dave Bacher will officiate. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the service. A potluck will immediately follow at the church. Pallbearers will be Harley Johnston, Paul Parker, Chris Chapman and Ned, James and Zach Hykes.

David was born Sept. 3, 1991, in Soldotna.

His family wrote: "David was a very calm and collected person with a sense of style who loved spending time with family and friends whether it was one on one, in a group setting or eating out. He graduated from Service High School in May. He enjoyed reading, fishing, hunting, playing World of Warcraft, Rock Band, and going to the movies. He had a passion for technology and a variety of music, with Norah Jones being his favorite artist. He was known for his witty sense of humor and was often challenging others to try and outsmart him. David will always be remembered for his kind nature, big heart and handsome smile. He loved his family and friends dearly, which showed through in his willingness to always lend a helping hand. He had a special place in his heart for his elders, his nephew, Alex, and beloved niece, Nadia."

David is survived by his father and mother, Roy and Trudi Komakhuk; sisters, Kristel and Tanya Komakhuk; nephew, Alexander Stiles; uncles, Edward Barnes, Michael Totemoff, and Samuel and Douglas Komakhuk; aunts, Marcia Colbert and Starlette Komakhuk; many cousins; and longtime family friend George Toshivak.

He was preceded in death by his great-grandmother, Ethel Komakhuk; "Big Grandma" Miranda Barnes; "Tiny Grandma" Minnie Komakhuk; grandfathers, Alex Barnes and Mike Totemoff; great-uncle, John "Uncle Sonny" Komakhuk; uncles, Alby and Eli Totemoff; aunts, Karen Fillingham and Joanne Lord; niece, Nadia Love Komakhuk; and cousin, Riley Kennett-Fillingham.

Trudi, Roy, Kristal and Tawnya, words failed me when I heard of David's passing. I believe it went past shock to disbelief. The love the family poured into David radiated from this boy. He was a wonderful son and brother and I know he is dearly missed.

To my neighbors, Roy & Trudy, I am so sorry for your loss. I didn't know about David's passing until this evening and am so sad for you and your family. I have watched David grow up over the years into the young man he had become. There are no words that I can express to you that will make you feel better now; but know that he is with God and there with your lovely little granddauthter. Peace be Yours, Diane Lee

he was truely an amazing person and a dear friend. He always knew how to make me laugh. I remember staying up late and getting in trouble for being online or playing xbox late at night. or us webcaming each other on msn just so he can look at himself in the screen! also the time we spent the day at the fair together, he was batman and i was "eagle woman". I miss him so much, and cant believe this has happened. I am very sorry for his family and other friends, we shall NEVER forget him!

David was a sensitive boy.... with a big heart and a beautiful smile. He was loved dearly by his family and friends and will be deeply missed by so many.

His light may be extinguished, but his spirit of goodness will continue to shine on and that is a pretty wonderful thing. To honor David..... do something nice for someone else today to cherish the memory of this lovely boy.

Komahkuks..... much love to you all.
