Joe and Mary Ann wed in June 1965, and shortly thereafter moved to Alaska. They lived in the Fairbanks, Alaska, area for 19 years and, while there, had three daughters. Joe transferred to the Anchorage ARTCC in 1983, settling the family in Eagle River. Joe retired as a National Airspace Operations Manager after nearly 40 years with the FAA.
Joe loved Alaska and he especially loved to fish and hunt. His hunting trips were shared with many special friends over the years, but one of his biggest joys was hunting with his girls.
